Two figures in hooded, cone-shaped hand-felted wool Dome Coats standing in dune grass, photographed from below against a pale sky, faces concealed but for the eyes.

Making Strange

2019

Making Strange is a photographic series by Andrew Nuding, selected as a finalist in the photography section of the 34th annual Festival International de Mode et de Photographie in Hyères, France, in 2019.

The Dome Coats captured in this image are hand-felted wool garments built around a sculptural volume that extends away from the body. The form resists the conventions of tailored fit, proposing instead a relationship between wearer and garment defined by enclosure, weight, and presence.
